The Bridging Cultures ESL class recently visited the Canby Public Library for a private, after-hours event designed just for them. For many, it was their first time stepping inside the library - and the experience was filled with warmth, encouragement, and discovery. Attendees got to sign up for library cards, explore the shelves, ask questions, and learn about the wealth of resources available in our community.
Beyond the services, what made the night unforgettable was the atmosphere: welcoming and full of possibility. Events like these remind us that language learning is about more than grammar - it's about gaining access to opportunities, building confidence, and belonging.
Why the ESL Program Matters
Every week, Bridging Cultures sees the impact of learning English firsthand:
- A parent helping their child with their homework
- A participant explaining their needs at a doctor’s appointment
- A student ordering food confidently at a restaurant
- A neighbor introducing themselves to someone new
These classes provide more than vocabulary - they provide agency, confidence, and connection. Through engaging lessons, real-life practice, and community partnerships, they’re helping people feel more at home in the place they already call home.
Community Makes This Possible
Community is at the heart of the ESL program. Bridging Cultures is grateful to partners and supporters like the Canby Public Library, who open their doors and contribute to a more inclusive city.
